June 2019-After Several Inches of Rain, the Woods and Gardens Look Great

Cornell Oasis Garden is a Community garden located in the middle of a forest in Kenwood (48th and Cornell, Chicago. Presently we have 31 gardeners. The history of the oasis goes back well over 40 years. Contact Hal Cohen-Raptorhal3@gmail.com if you are interested in joining our community.

I finally have a new camera. I'll be blogging on a more regular basis now. We've had an enormous amount of rain over the past 2 months. The temperature has been on the cool side throughout May and into the third week of May. We had a new visitor to the garden today, an Ebony Jewelwing. This damselfly is most often found near water. Perhaps all of the rain has brought him, it's a male, into our woods.

The entrance to the garden is pinched near the beginning. This gives the illusion of going into a secret place.

Along the path to the garden are many native wildflowers. Here is wild ginger. Not related to Chinese ginger used in cooking.

Just before arriving at the gardens, the meditation garden comes into view. The paths wind around ferns and an assortment of perennial plants.
